Project description
A personalized nutrition and meal planning app designed to simplify healthy eating for everyday users through flexibility, ease, and motivation.
Challenge
Most users struggle with nutrition apps that feel either too scientific or overly restrictive. Gekko was designed to give users clear, customizable meal plans that adapt to their personal lifestyle and preferences.
Ways of Working
I led the full design process solo — from research and flow mapping to final UI — using an iterative weekly structure. Feedback loops and usability testing were built into the process to ensure real user needs stayed at the center.
Process
From understanding user pain points to crafting a simple, scalable design system.
Research & Planning
I interviewed users and reviewed existing diet apps to find key gaps. The biggest insights showed a desire for flexibility, easy adjustments, and a non-intimidating interface for both beginners and health-conscious users.
Design & Prototyping
I created low- to high-fidelity wireframes and a clickable prototype using Figma. Visuals were built with a clean, green aesthetic and thoughtful spacing, designed to reduce clutter and promote daily use.
Development & Implementation
Though not coding myself, I prepared the UI with scalability in mind. I documented component systems, design tokens, and interaction behaviors to ensure smooth handoff and consistent development.
Solution
A wellness app that adapts to users instead of forcing them into one-size-fits-all diets.
Custom Meal Plans
Users can create diet charts that suit their health goals, cuisine preferences, or lifestyle. This freedom empowers long-term habit-building and removes the pressure of following fixed templates.
Progress Tracking Dashboard
A simple yet effective dashboard helps users stay accountable, showing progress streaks, daily intake stats, and positive reinforcements for consistency.
Goal-Based Onboarding
Users are guided through a short, purposeful setup flow that customizes their experience based on intent — whether it’s weight loss, clean eating, or general fitness.
Results
Users responded positively, reporting increased clarity, control, and motivation.
Higher Retention Potential
Early testing showed users were more likely to return daily because the interface was easy to navigate and the plans felt personalized, not forced.
Simplified Decision-Making
The visual clarity and intuitive flow helped users understand what to do next — whether tracking, editing, or planning — reducing confusion significantly.
Design Ready to Scale
The component-based UI supports easy integration of future features like food delivery, social support, or nutritionist chat without a redesign.
